the crazy dog mom of the month Amanda Koa & Ryuk

August's The Crazy Dog Mom of the Month: Amanda with Koa and Ryuk

Your name: Amanda Ballweg

Dogs' names: Koa and Ryuk

Instagram: @thecrazydogmomshop

Where do you live: Stoughton, WI

Tell us about your dogs: Koa and Ryuk are 2 weeks apart and will be turning 1 this month! (August) Koa is a Siberian Husky that we got from Wisconsin. We rescued Ryuk from a shelter in Denver, CO and were told that he's a Siberian Husky and Alaskan Malamute mix, but we don't see the Malamute part, we think he's German Shepherd and Siberian Husky.

Koa is the grey and white one. He thinks the world is his jungle gym and is very smart! He is the textbook definition of a Siberian Husky. He's stubborn, smart, independent, talkative, and an escape artist.

Ryuk is the black and brown one. He is our piranha but he has two modes: super cuddly and lazy or all in your face obnoxious! He is just an all-around goofy guy.

Tell us a little about you: I'm actually the founder of The Crazy Dog Mom and I figured if I'm interviewing other dog moms, I should probably also fill out the interview too.

I went to school for dental assisting and then web development and now I work at a small business that specializes in sprinkles and other bakery goods while running The Crazy Dog Mom and Apricity Wish.

The Crazy Dog Mom sells apparel and accessories for crazy dog moms while donating 10% of every purchase to dogs in need. Apricity Wish sells hemp wish bracelets and gemstone bracelets.

What are your dog’s favorite things (toys, treats, etc): Koa is obsessed with doing the dishes, that's his favorite part of the day. He doesn't really care for toys unless they are soft and squeak, then he kills them and rips them to pieces.

Ryuk loves toys, especially balls, but he will also destroy toys easily, he likes to pick at them.

Why do you think of yourself as a dog mom: I will do anything for my dogs and I am constantly researching how to give them the best life possible. Which is why I decided to share the information I learn through this blog.

I would rather spend time with my dogs than people and they are just my everything, they are my kids.

What was the moment you knew you weren’t just a dog owner but a dog mom: I'm not sure there was a specific moment, at least not that I can think of. But I guess I realized how much I cared for Kiara (my previous dog, the one who made me the crazy dog mom). When I was away from home all I could think about was going home to her and giving her the best life I could. She didn't have separation anxiety too bad but I think I had it bad for her. I put her before everyone else, including myself.

What is your favorite part of being a dog mom: The endless love and laughter. It doesn't matter what mood I'm in or what I look like or what I do, my dogs love me no matter what. It's unconditional love. And now my boys push me to be a better version of myself.

What is your best dog mom advice: Connect with other dog moms and learn as much as you can about dogs and how to give them the life they deserve. They are only here for a short amount of time, so cherish it and make the best of it.

What is your best dog mom hack: I'm sure I have tons of hacks but for some reason, the only one I can think of right now is to brush your dogs outside. That way you don't have to worry about cleaning up the fur afterward and nature loves it.

What is your favorite thing to do with your dog: We go to the dog park every morning and it has become my favorite thing. I used to be iffy about dog parks but Koa needs it so much, he just thrives there and it's so fun to watch him explore the wooded areas, swim, and play with other dogs, especially when he jumps over them like the crazy boy he is!

What is one dog mom goal you have: I want to hike more with the dogs and travel places with them. This has always been a goal of mine but for whatever reason have never made it a reality.

Fun fact about your dog: Koa is on the smaller side but he is very agile and athletic. He can jump with such ease you think he teleports.
